Recognizing in her child her own sense of despair over the grim predictions we now all hear regularly about the earth’s future, Susanna knew she had no choice but to help both herself and her son transform their cynicism into hopeful action. Her child's simple but profound words propelled Susanna into approaching the administration of his school to see if a parent program could be started that would inspire all families into an environmental activism marked by optimism, education and positive change. Susanna asked if the parent program could be in partnership with the school by supporting the developing global citizenry movement she discovered had been quietly growing over the past years within the school’s basement, hallways, bathrooms, offices, cafeteria, and classrooms.
